Executive MBA in Bank Management

General Information

All participants must have access to an Internet Service Provider, an active e-mail account, and a compatible Web browser. Participants must also be proficient with

word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

Note: Neither tuition remission for University System of Maryland employees nor tuition remission under the Golden I.D. program may be used for Executive Programs.

Objective
The objective of the Executive Master's programs is to provide an exceptional graduate education in a program format tailored specifically for busy managers and professionals. The accelerated seminar format enables our participants to make full use of their business experience while completing all degree requirements in 18 months (21 months for the Executive MBA).  For admission to the executive programs, applicants must demonstrate a record of professional accomplishments including a minimum of 5 years of business or management experience, as well as meet the graduate school admission standards.

Format
Each class is composed of approximately 25 participants who progress through the program as a group. The experience of the class members is integral to the learning experience. Instruction includes lectures, case studies, structured discussions, guest
speakers, simulations, computer exercises, written projects, and oral presentations. In-person Saturday classes alternate with online classes. The combination of instruction is an important feature of the executive curriculum and is designed to develop the different skills required for managing people and projects at a distance and in person.

Location

Executive seminars are delivered through a combination of face-to-face weekend seminars alternating with weekly online study.  Face-to-face classes are held at one of two locations in Maryland:  UMUC Headquarters in Adelphi or the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) in Rockville.

Resources

All Graduate students are automatically registered in the online information system of the University System of Maryland and have extensive access to an array of online journal databases and national and international newspapers.  These resources are available through the Information and Library Services Web site at www.umuc.edu/library.  There are more than 65 proprietary databases, over half of which are full-text, covering business, management, and computer science areas.  All are accessible via the Internet using a Web browser.

Required Library Course

To ensure students are well prepared to take advantage of modern library and information resources, the Graduate School has developed a 100 percent online, non-credit library research course.  All executive students must successfully complete UCSP 610E Library Skills for the Information Age within their first seminar.
