The DE Oracle Is Changing

As a result of institutional reorganization, the Distance Education and Technology Services group which publishes and maintains the DE Oracle is now the Center for Support of Instruction (CSI), part of the newly formed Office of Instructional Services and Support. This edition of the DE Oracle marks two important new developments arising from this change. First, while the faculty remains the focus of CSI, and of the DE Oracle, with a particular emphasis on course delivery, the new DE Oracle reflects our new group's expanded responsibility to serve all UMUC faculty rather than just those in the Graduate School of Management & Technology. Second, significant technical changes to the DE Oracle will align its content and information architecture with the institutional adjustments. The Oracle site will also be moving towards a more standards-compliant and accessible technical underpinning. This will promote greater usability for all users, including those with physical or cognitive handicaps, as well as quicker load times and greater responsiveness. While this means the site will be optimized for appearance on modern standards-compliant browsers (Internet Explorer 6 for Windows, Internet Explorer 5 for Mac, Netscape Navigator 6, Mozilla Firefox 1.0, etc.) it will also remain completely functional for all older (non-compliant) browsers. There are also plans to make it easier to locate information within the site. None of these changes will happen overnight, but rather will be progressively implemented over the coming weeks and months. As always, faculty and staff from the whole UMUC community with an interest in course delivery are encouraged to contribute to the publication.
