1. Use
PowerPoint to create a slide show. |
2. Start
Impatica for PowerPoint and select the Add button.

3. Using
the Open dialog window, select the PowerPoint
presentation you want to Impaticize, or browse to find the
directory where you have stored your PowerPoint file. Select
the PowerPoint file and click on the Open button.

Note: The PowerPoint file name will appear under the Source
PowerPoint Files
window.

4. Select
the Slide
Show options.

- Save
Location: Determines the location where all
generated Impatica files will be stored. (Note: it's
best to leave the default location, which is the location
of the PowerPoint source file. If you want to change
the location of the generated Impatica files, select the
browse button and select the desired location.)
- Impatica File Format: This feature
will allow Impatica to generate the proper files to run the
Impatica presentation. Select "New Impatica
File Format"
and "Apply Extra Compression".
- Playback Controls: This feature allows
the user to control the playback of the presentation. You
can select the Foreground and Background color of the playback
controls
- Target Screen Dimensions: This allows
you to select a target screen size. Unless the target audience
is for hand-held devices use the default "Automatic".
- Loading Color: This feature allows
you to select the color of the background
portion of the loading indicator. Leave as default color or
select a color that compliments the presentation.

5. Select
the Media options.
Note: Only AVI and
WAV files can be Impaticized. All other
formats will not function in the Impaticized slide show.

- Wait
for Sound: The
wait for Sound option enables the precise synchronization
of
narration with the presentation. By waiting for the sound
to complete before advancing to the
next animation or the next slide, it is guaranteed that
sound will not be cut-off and that the
presentation will remain precisely synchronized across
all receiving platforms.
- JPEG Images: You can specify the quality
to be applied to JPEG images. For most images, 70% quality
will
result in significant compression without a significant loss
of quality.
- Animation Playback : This options
determines the timing and appearance of animations in the
impaticized presentation. Select the version of PowerPoint
you are using.
- Video: Selecting this option will
convert any embedded videos found
within the source PowerPoint presentation. A target speed must
be selected.
- Make hyperlinks open new window: If
this option is selected, all hyperlinks to URLs will open a
new browser window and display
the desired page within the new window.
- Make all animations automatic: Selecting
this option will cause Impatica to override
the animation on mouse
click setting that has been set in the PowerPoint presentation.
If this option is selected, all animations will occur automatically,
without waiting for a mouse click.
- Sound Format:
- Compact -
Converts sound objects to Impatica's
compact sound format. Best for streaming sound
over the Internet.
- AU µLaw (5 x Compact
size) -
Sound will be converted using
a larger, but higher quality sound
format than that produced using the "Compact" sound
setting. Works best within a controlled network
where a sizeable bandwidth is always available to the end
users.
- WAV PCM (10 x Compact size) -
Sound will be converted to
the highest quality sound format, but
with the highest file size. Works best when distributing
content via CD-ROM
or within a network with extremely high bandwidth.

6. Select
the Extra Output options.

- Generated
Support Files
- HTML
file -
Will create an HTML file (web page) that
can be used to preview the impaticized file.
The HTML file will be saved in the same folder as the corresponding
Impatica file.
- Zip
package -
Will create a zip file that contains
the impaticized presentation, the Impatica player applet
and an HTML page.
- SCORM
package -
Will produce a SCORM conformant sharable
content object. This package can
be used within a SCORM conformant learning management system.
- BlackBerry
web files -
This option will only be enabled if the Impatica File
Format selected is "BlackBerry File
Format".
- .ipk package -
Will produces a file that is suitable for viewing
on Sharp Zaurus handheld devices.
- Exported Notes:
- HTML file -
Will
extract text from the Notes section
of the PowerPoint presentation as an HTML file.
- Plain text file -
Will extract text
from the Notes section of the PowerPoint presentation as
a plain text file.
- OnCue script file -Will
extract text from the Notes section of
PowerPoint presentation and generate a tagged Impatica
script file, for use in Impatica
OnCue.

7. Select
Impaticize button to start slide show conversion.

Note: When you
click the Impaticized button, the Conversion Progress screen
will appear showing
the progress of the conversion.
In some cases, it may take a few moments
for progress to begin showing and could take a few moments for
it's completion.

| 8. Once the
PowerPoint presentation has been Impaticized, the following dialog
box will appear. From
the "Web Server Upload" tab select the Connect button.

9. Fill in the Server Information:
- Account Name: You can use your first name
or the name of the course. It doesn't matter.
You can also delete the current account,
make the current account the
default or choose a different account.
- FTP Server Name: polaris.umuc.edu
- FTP Port: is an optional parameter that
may be required due to the unique set-up of your
FTP server. The default value is port 21. Normally, this field
is left blank.
- FTP User Name:Polaris
user name (the login name you use to log into your Polaris
account).
- FTP Password: Polaris
user name (the password you use to log into your Polaris
account).
- Web Documents Folder: /www/foldername (where
foldername = the name of the folder you will be publishing
the Impatica files to.
- Web Site Location: is the address (URL)
for the web server (HTTP server). It is the
address value you supply to a web browser to view the top page
of your web site.
- Connection Type: can be set to Active or
Passive. Active is the default connection type
that will be applicable to most FTP servers. In certain cases,
especially with firewalls, you
may have to use a passive connection. Generally, if an active
connection fails, the protocol
will automatically revert to passive.
- Upon connecting, ensure Impatica applet is on server: specifies
whether or not
Impatica should verify that the applet files
exist on the FTP server. When this
option is selected, the files will be automatically uploaded
if they are not already on the server.
- Remember Password: allows you to indicate
either to save an encrypted
version of your password with the other settings or to omit
the password from saving. Use this option only if you are using
your own computer. Do not use this option if you are in a lab.
Once the information is filled in, select the Connect button.

10. After
a server connection has been established you will need to publish
the Impatica files to the server.
Be sure that Include
HTML is
checked then select the Put All
Files button. This will publish all the files that
Impatica has generated for the slide show.

11. Once the
Impatica files have been published, test the Impatica presentation
in the browser to ensure the presentation is functioning properly.
