UMUC Faculty Media Lab

In December 2001, UMUC's Center for the Virtual University (CVU), the multimedia development group of the Office of Distance Education and Lifelong Learning (ODELL), opened its eagerly anticipated Faculty Media Lab.

The Faculty Media Lab offers a myriad of multimedia resources including three computer workstations (two PCs and a Macintosh G4), a laptop for presentations, a scanner, a CD-ROM recorder, and a color printer. By far the most popular equipment is the audio and video conferencing system connected to an interactive white board.

Since then, it's served as a valuable resource for the Center for Support of Instruction (CSI), Insructional Support Specialist Coordinators (ISS) and faculty members who've developed several multimedia enhancements for online courses.

The CVU has put together a brief video (requires the use of RealPlayer) on the Faculty Media Lab. This video and the FAQ's page will help you to get a better idea of how the lab can help you enhance your online classroom.

The Faculty Media Lab is located in Room 1226 of the Student and Faculty Services Center (SFSC) in Adelphi, Maryland. For additional information, visit their web site at http://chaucer.umuc.edu.

To schedule an appointment to use the Faculty Media Lab, contact Theo Stone, at tstone@umuc.edu or your ISS Coordinator.
