2- Nestcape Composer - Main Tools

  • Practice
    1. Open a new document in Composer and save it in its own folder (on A:) with an appropriate web-safe filename. Give the document a "page title."
    2. Use the composition and formatting toolbars to create a sample class announcement or other text. Use heading and normal styles; font type, font size, font color, font style (bold, italics); bulleting or numbering; alignment.     3. Resave and close the document.

3- Create and test a link

  • Practice
    1. Reopen the announcement document.
    2. Make a mailto: link for your name.
    3. Make a typed or pasted URL into a hyperlink.
    4. Make a hyperlink from other text.
    5. Resave the announcement a last time but do not close the document.

4- View and copy HTML Source Code and paste into WebTycho

  • Practice
    1. Locate, highlight, and copy the announcement source code (between but not including the body tags) using keystrokes Control-C.
    2. Log into WebTycho tychousa.umuc.edu as yourself and go either into one of your classes or into WebTycho Orientation, via links Options/Take a Tour. OR Log into WebTycho as UMUC Guest, password umuc, and enter Orientation.
    3. Select and open a location to paste the announcement (e.g., Announcement area or Test Conference). Select HTML as the input type.
    4. Click in the text area, paste the announcement, and Submit.
    5. Close the announcement HTML document.

5- Work with Tables in Composer (using a UMUC Library Guide)

6- Put the finished page in the classroom by one of 2 methods.

  1. Paste the HTML into a WebTycho text box (see Step 4 above).
  2. Upload the file to Polaris and link to it (see the training module concerning Polaris and FTP (info.umuc.edu/de/ezine/trainings/hour_train/ftp_workshop/main_instruc.htm) or the overview/review of these steps (info.umuc.edu/de/ezine/how_to/html-pages/useComposer/edit_webpage/edit_webpage2.htm).

    As of Fall 2003, WebTycho will not allow uploading an HTML attachment.
