Introduction to Using Netscape Composer to Format HTML Text for WebTycho

HTML is the language of the Web. It provides flexibility, hyperlinking ability, reusability, and attractive formatting, all without danger of spreading viruses.

This workshop will introduce formatting HTML text for use online in WebTycho. The focus will be on learning to use a free, basic hypertext editor, Netscape Composer, that creates formatting code for you in background while you work in a user-friendly "WYSIWYG" interface.

Upon completion of this workshop, the participant should be able to:

  • Create announcement or conference text for WebTycho containing bullets, links, colored fonts, and other formatting, using Netscape Composer
  • Paste the code into WebTycho
  • Use tables to position text (and other elements) in a webpage
  • Understand the advantages of composing and editing webpages using an HTML editor compared to converting a Word document to HTML
