Develop a Site Using the Site Management Window

This workshop will cover a great deal of information that you will find very important as you start building your first website using Dreamweaver. If you get stuck on a particular step and are not sure what to do, click on the Additional Help link next to each step for screen shots and additional information.

Before you get started, there are a few things that you should keep in mind as you build your website.

When Naming Files

Keep all file names in lowercase, with no spaces. (e.g., lesson-one, lesson_one, or lessonone)

Get it right from the beginning

  • Build the site correctly the first time. Ensure the remote and the local structure match each other (see example).
  • It is best to keep images that will be used on multiple pages in one folder.
  • If you are developing a multipage website, and each webpage has graphics that will not be used on other pages, it is best to develop a separate folder for each web page with a subdirectory for the images (see example).
