Additional Help

1.To access the Site Management Window, select Site--> Site Files.
2. The Site Management Window is composed of two major panels: the Remote Site and the Local Folder Site
3. Remote Site Side

The Remote Site panel can only be viewed from the Site Files view.

The Site Files view allows you to see the folder structure, the size of the various files (within the folders), the type of file, date last modified, and a checkout status.

If you are an advanced user of Dreamweaver and know programming scripts such as ColdFusion, PHP, ASP, etc., you could use the Testing Server view.

The Testing Server vie allows you set up your local computer to act as a server so that you can test dynamic web pages. When using this feature, it is extremely important to have a firewall installed on your computer.

4. Local Site Side

There are two views for the Local Site panel - Site Files view, and Site Map view.

The Site Files view allows you to see the folder structure, the size of the various files (within the folders), the type of file, date last modified, and a checkout status.

The Site Map view allows you to see the Site Map. It is a hierarchy of the folder structure with the home page listed at the top. This feature doesn't provide much use and is often not used. It is best to remain in the Site Files view.

5. Connect/Disconnect

There are two states for this button - Connect and Disconnect.

--A Connect state indicates that the connection is live and files can be transferred.

-- A Disconnect state indicates that the connection has ended and files cannot be transferred.

6. Refresh

-- Clicking on the Refresh button will reload the page and show you the most current local and remote directory listings.

7. Levels

The directory structure is very similar to the file structure in Windows Explorer. The plus and minus signs indicate the existence of additional files or folders.

Note: It is important to try to keep your directory structure on both the local and the remote site the same. This helps maintain your organization and makes it easier to transfer files.

8. Put

-- The Put button copies files from the local site to the remote site

9. Get

-- The Get button copies files from the remote site to the local site

10. Moving Files

To move a file or folder between the remote and the local panels, simply highlight the file or folder you want to move and then, click Get to retrieve files from the Remote side (server) or Put to publish files from the Local side (hard drive) to the Remote side (server).

11. Current Sites Drop-Down Menu

Current sites drop-down menu is a listing of all of the sites that have already been defined. To add a new site select Site-->New Site or Site-->Edit Site to edit an existing site.

12. Stop button

Located at the bottom of the screen, a red stop button will appear during file transfer. Clicking this button will stop the movement of files.
